LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball continues fall action with a doubleheader against the College of Southern Idaho on Sunday, Oct. 6 at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field. First pitch between the Aggies and the Golden Eagles will be at 1 p.m.
"These two games with CSI will give us additional opportunities to evaluate players against live pitching and in-game situations as well, as move some players around position wise from where we started the fall season," USU head coach Steve Johnson said.
The Aggies will conclude fall action with an alumni softball game on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11:30 a.m.
"I have had the opportunity to meet several alumni already at various functions, and they are excited about the new energy around the program. We are looking forward to connecting the traditions of the past with the current team and sharing the new vision for the program with our alumni. Of course we are also looking forward to having a good time at the tailgate and the football game as well," Johnson said.
The event does not end with the softball game as the team will hold a tailgate prior to the Utah State football game against Boise State which begins at 6 p.m. All alumni are asked to fill out the attached PDF as an RSVP no later than Sept. 25. The USU staff will need to know if you are playing in the game as well as t-shirt sizes. Friends and family are also welcome.
Utah State softball will also have football tickets set aside for softball alumni. Softball asks that alumni only get two per person so that there is enough for everyone. This is not to say that there will not be more available tickets. The tickets are for seats located in the East side. For more information on tickets, check the attached flyer.
"The fall season has been very productive for both the coaches and the players. We're all still getting to know each other and as coaches we are constantly evaluating everyone looking for where we are strong, what we need to improve on and who's moving to the top of the depth charts," Johnson said. "The players are learning how we all work and what we expect but they are doing a great job of absorbing everything we are giving them and putting it into their play on the field. We have had some parts of practice that have been very impressive from a skill standpoint, and others that we still need to continue to work on but we are getting there."
For any other information about the alumni activities please contact assistant coach Sarah Sigrest through email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 2014 edition of the Aggies will begin on the road at the St. George Tournament on Feb. 7-8. Utah State's first Mountain West contest will be at home on March 21 against Colorado State.
