USU Women's Tennis Defeats Wildcats In A Close, 4-3, Match
Feb. 2, 2008 OGDEN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis defeated Weber State in a close, 4-3, match Saturday. The Aggies improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-1. Head Coach Christian Wright said "It was down to the wire." USU won the doubles point with sophomore Brianna Harris and junior Bridgette Strickland teaming up to take the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6, defeating WSU's Ashley Schapper and Inalise Pienaar. Freshman Jennifer Johnson and Taylor Perry beat the Wildcat's Kelli Lindley and Greyce Farias, 9-8, at No. 3 doubles. USU won at No. 2 and 6 singles, while WSU took No. 1, 3 and 5 leaving the scored tied at 3. The match came down to No. 4 singles where sophomore Britney Watts battled Weber State's Greyce Farias to three sets, winning, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Johnson picked up her first single victory as an Aggie defeating Lindley at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1. "It was stressful, but it's always fun when we win." Wright said. The Aggies continue action on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Idaho State at 1:30 p.m.
