POCATELLO, Idaho - Utah State's women's tennis team (4-0, 0-0 MW) extended its own school record of wins to start the season to four as it beat Idaho State, 6-1, on Thursday in Pocatello, Idaho.

"I am very proud of this team," said head coach Sean McInerney. "It is very hard to win four-straight away matches. Idaho State was a tough team that made a lot of balls. We battled and found a way to win. I am excited to finally be home this Tuesday against Weber State."

In doubles play, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region's sixth-ranked duo of junior McKenzie Davis and sophomore Kallie Sperry set the tone early with a 6-2 win over Idaho State's Marian Tangarife and Laura Theus at the first doubles position. Then, the freshman tandem of Nini Guensler and Lexi Turley defeated Svenja Tegtmeier and Wiebke Boeckmann, 6-2, at the second doubles position. The Aggies couldn't complete the doubles sweep as Idaho State's Madelyn Weltzin and Kasey Bacon defeated the USU team of sophomore Amber Stuhlmann and freshman Katie Sweet, 6-5.

With the doubles point in hand, the Aggies started singles play, where Davis rocketed out to a straight-sets win over Tangarife, 6-2, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles spot. Shortly after, Guensler matched Davis's score with a 6-2, 6-0 win of her own against Tegtmeier in the No. 3 singles spot. Turley clinched the win when she gave Utah State its fourth point of the dual match with a 6-3, 6-2, straight-sets win against Theus at the No. 4 singles spot.

After the match was clinched for the Aggies, Sperry lost her first singles match of the year, as Bacon bested her in a tight, three-set match, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6, at the No. 2 singles spot. Sweet won her match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, over Boeckmann at the No. 6 singles spot to bring the dual match score to 5-1. Freshman Cassidy Branstine ended the match with her own straight-sets win, 7-5, 7-5, over Weltzin at the No. 5 singles position to bring the final score to 6-1 in favor of the Aggies.

Utah State is back in action Tuesday, Feb. 11, when Weber State travels to Logan in what will be the Aggies' first home match of the year. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
