Utah State Women's Tennis Falls To UNLV, 6-1, To Open Up Mountain West Conference Play

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Utah State women's tennis (7-4, 0-1 MW) lost to UNLV 6-1 in Las Vegas on Sunday as the Aggies played in their first ever Mountain West contest.
The match started with doubles play where junior McKenzie Davis and sophomore Kallie Sperry lost to Lucia Batta and Santa Shumilina, 8-1, at the first position, and sophomores Amber and Ashley Stuhlmann lost to Aleksandra Josifoska and Iren Kotseva, 8-4, at the third position. Freshmen Nini Guensler and Lexi Turley played in the second position, but their match went unfinished.
In singles play, Davis lost in the No. 1 spot to Batta, the No. 46-ranked singles player in the nation, 6-2, 6-2. Sperry lost at the No.2 spot to Josifioska, 7-6, 6-1, and Turley lost at the No. 4 spot to Kotseva, 7-6, 6-3. Amber Stuhlmann lost at the No. 5 spot to Anett Ferenczi-Bako, 6-1, 6-2, and Ashley Stuhlmann lost to Paola Artiga, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot. Guensler was the lone Aggie to post a victory, as she defeated Shumilina, 7-6, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot to make the final score 6-1.
The Aggies have a two-week break before travelling to Boise, Idaho, to face Boise State, Lewis-Clark State and UTEP on March 14, 15 and 16 respectively.
