Utah State Women's Tennis Topped by UTEP, 4-1, On Sunday

BOISE, Idaho - A strong effort in doubles wasn't enough for the Aggie women's tennis team as UTEP defeated Utah State, 4-1, on Sunday in Boise, Idaho. The Aggies finished their Boise road trip with a 1-2 record.
The Aggies took the doubles point as junior McKenzie Davis partnered up with sophomore Amber Stuhlmann for a 6-3 victory over Marie LeBlond and Daphne Visscher at the second position. Sophomores Kallie Sperry and Ashley Stuhlmann gave USU the doubles point with a 6-5 win at the third position against Matilda Rose Tench and Gabi Vasquez. Freshmen Lexi Turley and Nini Guensler lost a close match, 6-4, to Rebeca Calvillo and Davina Meza at the first position.
The Miners won four matches in a row in singles play to take the dual match from the Aggies. LeBlond defeated Sperry, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot, while Vazquez beat Amber Stuhlmann, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot. Then, Tench defeated Ashley Stuhlmann at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-3, before Lexi Turley was beat in three close sets, 6-7, 6-2, 10-5, by Visscher at the No. 5 spot. Davis and Guensler left their matches unfinished as UTEP played to clinch.
The Aggies are back in action this Wednesday, March 19, against Weber State in Ogden. First serve is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
