USU Claims Five Of Six Singles Matches En Route To 5-2 Win Vs. Gonzaga Friday

BOISE, Idaho - Five of Utah State's six singles players posted victories to lead the Aggies' women's tennis team to a 5-2 victory against Gonzaga in a neutral site match here Friday.

Courtney Anderson produced a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four singles to pace the Aggies to their second win in their last three matches. Other Aggie winners included Jill Smith and Carolyn Stephens at number two and three singles respectively, as well as Andrea Barker and Lauren Monson at the five and six singles spots.

Gonzaga opened the match by claiming all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. The Bulldogs' only singles victory was a three-set win by Amanda Becker against Lindsey Bennion. Bennion won the first set 6-4, but lost back to back sets by identical scores of 6-2.

The Aggies are playing three matches in three days at Boise. On Thursday, the Aggies fell 7-0 to host Boise State. USU will conclude the weekend with a match against Lewis and Clark on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Aggies are 7-9 on the season.
