Utah State Women's Tennis Concludes Thursday Action In BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah - Utah State women's tennis opened action in the BYU Invitational on Thursday with mixed results. In singles play, junior Hailey Swenson was the lone Aggie to advance in the A bracket, defeating BYU's Romina Nedakovic. Swenson then fell in three sets to Anastasia Putillina of Utah, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. In the B bracket, freshman Jenny Phillips took the sole victory for USU, defeating Weber State's Markay Mullen, 6-3, 6-1. Phillips then dropped her second match, 6-1, 6-2, to BYU's Paul Aubrey. Doubles action proved more victorious for the Aggies. USU won all three of its first morning matches only to fall in the second round. The Aggies introduced new doubles teams with senior Britney Watts and freshman Sadi Wilkins, sophomore Monica Abella and freshman Kristina Voytsekhovich, and junior Hailey Swenson and freshman Jaclyn West.
USU will continue action Friday, Sept. 18, competing in the singles silver bracket of the BYU Invitational. Junior Taylor Perry and Swenson will play at 1 p.m., while freshman Jaclyn West, Voytsekhovich and Watts will compete at 2:30 p.m.
