Katie Sweet and Lexi Turley Have Big Day at Jack Taylor Classic Saturday

Sweet defeated Montana State's Molly Crum (6-3, 6-4) to advance to the finals, where she would have faced teammate Turley, who won her match against Seattle's Cornine Wurden (2-6, 6-0, 6-4). Due to travel, the match did not take place on Sunday.
Turley and Sweet also won their respective doubles matches, as Turley and freshman Cassidy Branstine defeated Carly Lloyd and Annika Karlsen of in-state rival Weber State (8-1). Sweet teamed up with Idaho's Rita Bermudez to defeat Alyssa Nagai and Brittany Ellingsen of Eastern Washington (8-3).
In the Blue Flight, Aggie junior McKenzie Davis was injured and kept out of the rest of her matches as a precaution.
Sophomore Kallie Sperry lost her Orange Flight matchup against Abilene Christian's Kaysie Hemsdorf (6-2, 6-1). Branstine came out on top of a consolation bracket match over Eastern Washington's Dani Young (6-1, 6-0) before losing to Washington State's Dajana Ognjenovic (6-4, 3-6, 10-4) in the next round.
In the doubles section of the Orange Flight, sophomores Amber Stuhlmann and Ashley Stuhlmann won the consolation bracket by winning two matches. They won their first match over Seattle's Kelli Woodman and Anna Lambert by a score of 8-3, and their second match against by a score of 8-5 over Idaho State's Kaylee Feenern and Maddy Weltzin.
Utah State will be back in action next week at the Washington State Invite Sept. 27-29 in Pullman, Wash.
