Aggie Women's Tennis Advances Two Teams To Doubles Semifinals At Cougar Classic

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Utah State women's tennis team had a strong showing on Saturday at the Washington State-hosted Cougar Classic in Pullman, Wash.
The doubles team of junior McKenzie Davis and sophomore Kallie Sperry captured a Crimson Flight quarterfinals victory over Lewis & Clark's Bryn Oliveira and Deanri Human (6-2), while sophomore Ashley Stuhlmann teamed up with Idaho's Beatriz Flores in the Gray Flight to beat a mixed team of host school Washington State's Catherine Arnholdt Pedersen and Portland's Marina Reimers (6-3). Both teams will play in their respective flight's semifinals matches Sunday.
Sophomore Sperry's Crimson Flight singles quarterfinals match went to three sets against Boise State's Sandy Vo before Vo ultimately won a close match (2-6, 6-1, 6-4). In the Crimson Flight consolation round, Aggie freshmen Branstine and Turley won their matches. Branstine beat a Mountain West Conference foe in Boise State's Megan LaLone (6-5, 6-4), while Turley won a close match against Gonzaga's Isabell Klingert (6-4, 6-4).
The singles portion of the Gray Flight saw two more Aggie victories when Amber Stuhlmann won a consolation draw matchup over Gonzaga's Hanley Caras (6-3, 6-1), while her sister Ashley Stuhlmann defeated Lewis & Clark's Kaytlin Nelson (6-2, 6-2).
The Aggies are back in action Sunday for the final day of the Cougar Classic.
