Aggie Women Still Alive After First Day of ITA Regionals

LAS VEGAS -
Utah State women's tennis finished their first day of play in the ITA Mountain Regional Championships yesterday. Due to weather delays the athletes played the first round of singles and the first round of doubles late into the night, coming out with three victories in singles play, and one doubles pair advancing to the second round.
In singles action sophomore Hillary Hays, sophomore McKenzie Davis, and senior Jaci West were the only three aggies to advance on the main draw. After battling for three sets, Hays defeated Katie Wookey of New Mexico (6-4, 4-6, 6-3). Davis took down Sheila Smiley of Nevada (6-4, 6-3), and West won her match, eliminating Jodi Williams of New Mexico State (6-1, 6-2).
Freshman Ashley Stuhlman was defeated by Morgan Anderson of BYU (6-2, 6-3), and freshman Kallie Sperry was taken down by Teal Vosburgh of Boise State (6-2, 6-1). Senior Julie Tukuafu was taken down by Sandy Vo of Boise State (6-3, 6-2), freshman Amber Stuhlmann was eliminated by Iren Kotseva of UNLV (6-1, 6-0), and senior Kristina Voytsekhovich fell to Ashley Mackey of Montana (7-5, 6-1).
West and Davis came out on top for Utah State in doubles play, defeating Sanders and Manzi of Colorado (8-2). A new doubles line up had the Stuhlmann twins paired together. They were taken down by Josifoska and Kotseva of UNLV (8-0). Hays and Tukuafu were defeated by Oldani and Grbac of New Mexico (8-6). Voytsekhovich and Sperry were defeated by Catlin and Tapia on Northern Colorado (9-8).
