Utah State Women's Tennis Gears up for a Three-Match Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis (4-4) is set for a three-match swing, beginning in Salt Lake City when the Aggies take on Utah (2-1) at 6 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 15. USU then travels to Phoenix, Ariz. on Saturday, Feb. 17, for a doubleheader against Grand Canyon (4-6) and Mesa Community College (1-1) at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m.

"It is always fun playing Utah," head coach Sean McInerney said. "They are a very well-coached and hardworking program that is always a great challenge. We are excited for the opportunity."

In singles, freshman Sasha Pisareva is 6-2 at the No. 1 spot and senior Sabrina Demerath is 5-3 playing at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 spots. In doubles, Pisareva and senior Maggie O'Meara are 3-2, and sophomore Sophia Haleas and redshirt freshman Alexandra Taylor are also 3-2. 

The Aggies look to earn their first win against Utah as the Utes lead the series 22-0. In singles, Utah is led by junior Brianna Chisholm who is 2-1 at the No. 2 spot. In doubles, Chisholm and senior Margo Pletcher are 2-1 at the No. 1 spot, while seniors Alexia Petrovic and Jena Cheng are 2-0. 

Utah State has won five of its six matchups with Grand Canyon. In singles, senior Kylie Waschuk leads the Lopes in singles with a 4-1 record at the No. 6 spot. In doubles, freshmen Martina Lo Pumo and Autum Prudhomme are 3-2 at the No. 3 spot.

The match marks the first matchup between USU and Mesa CC. In singles, freshman Sala Yoshida leads Thunderbirds with a 2-0 mark. In doubles, freshmen Audra Spargo and Stephanie Alsman are 1-0.

Utah State women’s tennis (10-10, 1-3 MW) lost at home to in-state rival Utah (8-8, 2-6 Pac-12) on Tuesday, 4-2. Senior Nini Guensler factored in on both Utah State points, winning in doubles and singles.
