Women's Tennis Improves To 4-3 After Beating Eastern Washington
Feb. 27, 2005 PORTLAND, Ore. - Utah State's women's tennis team beat Eastern Washington University 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Portland. The Aggies imporved to 4-3 with the win. Utah State started strong, winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Carolyn Stephens and Lindsey Bennion led at the No. 1 spot, beating Kasy Knox and Sayaka Yoshimoto 8-4. At No. 2 Courtney Anderson and Andrea Barker teamed to win 8-2, while the tandem of Jill Smith and Lauren Monson won at the No. 3 spot 8-4. Bennion had little trouble in singles, wining the No. 1 spot against Knox 6-1, 6-0. Jill Smith took the No. 2 spot against Yoshimoto 7-6, 6-1. Stephens pulled out of the singles lineup because of a sore ankle, causing the rest of the roster to play up a spot. Courtney Anderson won at the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-0, while teammate Andrea Barker defeated Kim Cabiling 6-2, 6-2. At No. 5 Lauren Monson won 7-5, 6-1. Erin Manning played hard in her second singles match of the season, bouncing back after losing the first set 2-6 to win the next two sets 6-3, 10-6. The Aggies are in action again on March 4 at UNLV at 1 p.m.
