Utah State Women's Tennis Defeats Weber State for Second Time This Season With 5-2 Win Tuesday

OGDEN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis defeated in-state rivals Weber State, 5-2, Tuesday. The Aggies swept the doubles competition, securing the point, and then proceeded to win four of the six singles matches to improve to 5-5 overall this season, including a 2-0 record against the Wildcats. In singles action, sophomore McKenzie Davis defeated Ashley Tanner at the No. 1 spot in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). At the No. 2 spot, senior Jaci West defeated Kristi Elmer in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). At the No. 3 spot, senior Kristina Voytsekhovich defeated Nittaya Phonharath in straight sets (6-3, 7-5). At the No. 4 spot, senior Julie Tukuafu was defeated by Thais Kurer in a super tie-breaker (6-2, 4-6, 10-6). At the No. 5 spot, freshman Kallie Sperry took down Michelle Warwick in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). And at the No. 6 spot, sophomore Hillary Hays was defeated by Annika Karlsen in a super tie-breaker (6-4, 3-6, 10-5). In doubles play, West and Davis defeated Elmer and Kurer, 8-5, in the first position. In the second doubles position, Voytsekhovich and Sperry took down Tanner and Warwick, 8-4. And in the third doubles position, Tukuafu and freshman Amber Stuhlmann defeated Carly Loyd and Phonharath, 8-7.
The Aggies will continue their road trip when they take on Western Athletic Conference foe UT Arlington on Saturday, March 23 in Arlington, Texas. Play is set to begin at 2 p.m. (MT).
