Utah State's Hailey Swenson Named WAC Women's Tennis Player Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis player Hailey Swenson has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. It is the second time this year a USU women's tennis player has been named WAC athlete of the week.

Swenson, a freshman from North Salt Lake City, Utah (Woods Cross HS) was undefeated in both singles and doubles play last weekend, helping the Aggies earn two team victories over Dixie State (7-0) and Cal State Bakersfield (6-1) in Logan. In singles action, Swenson topped Dixie State's Ashley Lafeen, 6-0, 6-2, before defeating Ashley Thorneycroft of Cal State Bakersfield, 6-1, 6-0, both at the No. 2 position. In doubles play, Swenson paired with sophomore Britney Watts to take down Annie Salmon and Rebecca Wright of Dixie State, 8-0, and also beat Cal State Bakersfield's Sara Mijwel and Thorneycroft, 8-2.

Swenson leads the Aggies with an 11-10 record on the year, while she is 9-6 at No. 2 singles this spring. Swenson and Watts are 5-9 in the No. 2 doubles spot in duals.

Utah State is 6-9 on the season and will continue action Friday, April 4, at Boise State at 10 a.m. (MT).
