HONOLULU – In its first day on the big island of Hawaii, the Utah State women’s tennis team fell 6-1 to the Sea Warriors of Hawaii Pacific University, Thursday.
The Aggies opened the match in doubles action where junior Jaci West and freshman McKenzie Davis defeated HPU’s Vivian Hansen and Magdalena Smejova, (8-7). The two other matches did not prove as successful for the Aggies. Senior Romina Nedakovic and junior Kristina Voytskehovich fell to Celina Goettis and Ielyzaveta Rybakov, (8-3) while freshman Kimberly Watts and Brianna Rowland (Harris) lost to Zora Vickova and Lea Kruse-Utermann, (8-2).
In singles play, junior Julie Tukuafu had USU’s only win of singles action, defeating Kruse-Utermann, (7-5, 6-3) at the No. 6 spot. Davis kept her reign of the No. 1 position, but was dropped by Vickova in a tight two sets, (7-6, 6-4), while at No. 2, West was defeated by Goetti, (6-3, 6-2). Voytsekhovich pushed the competition to three sets, but eventually was topped by Smejova, (2-6, 6-2, 7-6). Nedakovic was defeated by Hansen, (6-3, 6-2), while Abella lost to Rybakova, (6-4, 6-4).
