Women's Tennis Falls 6-0 to No. 55 Hawai'i in Rain-Shortened Match, Friday
April 7, 2012
HONOLULU – Between rain delays and a change of venue, Utah State women’s tennis fell 6-0 to No. 55 Western Athletic Conference foe Hawai’i in a doubles-free match, Friday. With the loss, Utah State is 8-8 overall, 1-1 in WAC play. Hawai’i is now 10-6 and 1-1 in conference action. After a long delay due to weather, the teams elected to move to a local public court that was more likely to be dry. By the time everyone was re-settled, the schools agreed to cancel doubles competition due to time. Freshman McKenzie Davis opened the match at the No. 1 position, falling to Barbara Pinterova, (6-1, 6-2). Junior Jaci West pushed her match to the super tie-breaker but was eventually defeated by Katarina Poljakova, (3-6, 6-2, 10-4). Junior Kristina Voysekhovich fell to Jamie Pawid, (6-0, 6-2), while senior Romina Nedakovic lost to Marina Kostalova, (6-3, 6-4). Senior Monica Abella was defeated by Xenia Suworowa, (6-3, 6-1), while junior Julie Tukuafu fell to Kelsey Daquio, (6-2, 6-0). The Aggie women will continue WAC action on the islands Saturday as they take on San Jose State. Action will get underway at the University of Hawai’i Tennis Complex at 3 p.m. (MT).
