Women's Tennis Ends Regular Season With 4-3 Win Over Nevada

RENO, Nev. – To close the regular season, the Utah State women’s tennis team came away from Western Athletic Conference rival Nevada with another win, edging the Wolf Pack 4-3 on Saturday. With the win, the Aggies improved to 10-9 overall on the season, with a 2-2 record in WAC play. Nevada fell to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in league play. The match got off to a rocky start with Nevada sweeping doubles competition. Freshman McKenzie Davis and junior Jaci West were defeated by Michelle Okhremchuk and Emma Berberne, (8-3). Junior Kristina Voytsekhovich and senior Romina Nedakovic fell to Sophie Stevens and Juliette Legendre, (8-3). Junior Julie Tukuafu and senior Brianna Rowland wrapped up the series with a loss to Gabriela Eufrasio and Rymma Malova, (8-6). Singles action proved to be more successful for the Aggies on Saturday, where they managed to win four matches to come away with the overall win. Davis got things started with a win over Okhremchuk, (7-5, 6-3). West fell to Berbern in three sets, (6-3, 2-6, 10-6), while Voytsekhovich was defeated by Stevens, (6-1, 6-2). Nedakovic took down Legendre, (7-5, 6-0), while Tukuafu beat Eufrasio, (6-1, 6-1). Rowland wrapped things up with a straight-set win over Maslova, (6-2, 6-1). Up next for the Aggies is the WAC Tournament. The 2012 WAC Tournament will be hosted by New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces, N.M. Women’s action will start Thursday, April 26, and men will begin competition Friday, April 27.
