Nov. 20, 2013
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's tennis head coach Sean McInerney signed three players for the fall of 2014 to complete his first recruiting class at Utah State; it was announced Tuesday.
The Aggies add three, four-star recruits as Erin Freeman, a Downey, Calif., native, joins the team along with Sabrina Demerath out of Kenmore, Wash., and Meghan Lyall from Mesa, Ariz.
"I am extremely happy with our first recruiting class," McInerney said. "We are adding not only great athletes, but also outstanding students. Our goal with this class was to add depth and flexibility to our roster. All three of these players are proven winners at a high level and have the opportunity to become extremely successfull Mountain West performers. I am looking forward to watching them develop in the coming years."
Freeman, who comes to Utah State from Downey High School, is ranked 123rd in the country and has 23 wins over other four-star players in the last year. Demerath, out of Inglemoor High School, is the No. 1-ranked senior tennis player in Washington and is consistantly ranked in the top 150 in the country. Demerath has 21 wins over other four-star players in the past year. Lyall is the No. 2-ranked senior in Arizona and has been ranked as high as 146 in the country.
The three signings come on the heels of a strong Fall season, where the Aggies posted a 25-22 record in singles play and a 10-11 record in doubles play including junior McKenzie Davis and sophomore Kallie Sperry advancing to the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Tournament.
The Aggies start the spring season on Jan. 31, 2014 when they travel to Chicago to face Chicago State.
