LOGAN, Utah - Utah improved to 3-0 with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-23) win over Weber State Saturday afternoon in the Utah State Volleyball Invitational sponsored by Gossner Foods at the USU Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

The Utes remain the only unbeaten in the tournament after dealing the Wildcats their first loss, leveling their record at 1-1. Utah will return to the court to take on Portland at 5 p.m. while Weber State closes out the tournament against host Utah State at 7:30 p.m.

Utah hit .216 (41-19-102) for the match, getting a match-high 10 kills from Chelsey Schofield, the lone player in the match with double-digit kills. Morgan Odale and Erin Redd added hit kills apiece. Bailey Bateman, Morgan Odale and Eden Frazier posted three block assists each, while Nikki Sim logged 19 digs and McKenzie Odale dished out 20 assists.

Weber State hit just .010 (25-24-97) and were led by seven kills from Audrey Biggs. Laurel Bodily posted 10 digs while Mariah Katoa and Briana Wilms notched six block assists each and Whitney Hunt tallied 12 assists.

The first set was back-to-back until Utah pulled away from a 13-12 lead with four unanswered and pulled away for the 25-17 set win after a kill by Schofield. In set two, McKenzie Odale served up five-straight Ute points, opening up a 10-4 lead. Morgan Odale took a set from her sister for a kill to put Utah up 18-7, and the Utes coasted to the 25-13 lead.

WSU took a 7-2 lead in the third frame before Utah closed to 12-9. The Wildcats opened up a 16-11 lead but Utah scored seven-straight points to take an 18-16 advantage. Weber State then went on a 6-1 spurt to take a 22-19 lead, but Utah rallied for the win with Morgan Odale dishing out a service ace to end the set and the match.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $1 for youth ages 3-14. The USU Athletics Ticket Office will open at 9 a.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Utah State volleyball tickets are available in person at the USU Athletics Ticket Office at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
