LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball will host its annual Blue-White Scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum as part of the Aggies' preparation for the 2013 season. Former Aggie players Amy Crosbie and Erin Cartwright-Davis will be the guest coaches Tuesday.
"It's always exciting to have former players come back and coach our current players. We are extremely honored to have the current players visit with the former players and continue that strong bond with the former players, the current players and the future Aggie players," DuBose said. "We're thrilled to have two great people in Amy and Erin back to be our guest coaches. We're hoping it's another fun-filled night for players, coaches and fans."
Crosbie was a four-year letterwinner at USU from 1997-2000. As an outside hitter, Crosbie helped lead the Aggies to their first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2000 as USU advanced to the second round. On Sept. 12, 2000, Crosbie became the only Utah State player ever to be named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/Sports Imports National Player of the Week when she led Utah State to its first win against BYU in 20 years. She was also named second-team all-Big West as a junior and to the all-freshmen team during the 1997 campaign.
While at Utah State, Crosbie set school career records in kills (1,463) and attacks (3,627), and ranks in the top-10 all-time at USU in games (415), matches (120), hitting percentage (.207), service aces (98) and digs (763). Crosbie also owned the USU single-season records for kills (461) and attacks (1,094) set during her senior year. In the Aggies' current career record books, Crosbie is No. 2 for kills, No. 4 for attempts, No. 6 for service aces, No. 8 for matches played and No. 10 for sets played. She was also a two-time academic all-conference honoree in 1999 and 2000.
Crosbie earned her bachelor's degree from USU in family and consumer science in 2002, and spent two years as an assistant coach for the Aggies prior to working in the Student-Athlete Services Office, where she was the assistant director for Student-Athlete Services, as well as the CHAMPS Life Skills director for seven years. She is entering her fourth year as the associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at Weber State. Crosbie is married to former USU football player, Jeff Crosbie, and they have two daughters and a son.
Cartwright-Davis was a three-year letterwinner from 2001-03, earning honorable mention All-America honors from the AVCA in 2003. She also earned first-team all-Big West Conference accolades in 2002 and 2003, after earning honorable mention recognition in 2001.
Cartwright-Davis ended her three-year career at Utah State second all-time in kills (1,309), attacks (2,999) and total blocks (351), third all-time in solo blocks (61), block assists (290), hitting percentage (.281) and ninth all-time in digs (690). In USU's current career record book, Cartwright-Davis is No. 3 for block solos, No. 4 for attack percentage, No. 4 for total blocks, No. 5 for kills, No. 6 for attempts and No. 7 for block assists. She was also a two-time academic all-conference honoree in 2002 and 2003.
Erin and her husband, TJ Davis, have four boys, and they're the directors the Pickleville Playhouse at Bear Lake in Garden City, Utah.
Head coach Grayson DuBose is starting his eighth season at the helm of the Aggie program, leading USU into its first season in the Mountain West Conference after eight season in the Western Athletic Conference. DuBose and the Aggies return five starters and eight letterwinners from last season's squad that posted a milestone season with a 21-9 overall record and a 15-3 league record. Utah State won its first-ever WAC regular-season title to go with its 2010 WAC Tournament championship in its eighth and final season in the league.
Utah State's first action of the 2013 season is on Aug. 30-31 at the University of Utah Tournament. The Aggies then play at the University of Portland Nike Invitational on Sept. 6-7, before playing at in-state foe Weber State on Sept. 10. USU then plays at the Duke University Tournament on Sept. 13-14.
The Aggies will officially kick off their home schedule by hosting Boise State on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., in USU's Mountain West debut.
The 2013 USU volleyball team will be holding a free skills clinic on Saturday, Aug. 24. Check in begins at 9:30 a.m. at the west entrance of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum and the clinic will run from 10 a.m. to Noon. The registration deadline was Aug. 14.
The clinic, which is for children under the age of 14 and adults who are at least 18, will focus on basic volleyball technique as well as providing up-to-date information on rule changes in the collegiate game.
