USU volleyball will hit the road for the first time this season to open its season-long seven match road swing.
The Aggies are playing in their second-straight tournament and in the middle leg of their three-weekend tournament tour as they'll play in the Kansas State Invitational next weekend.
The last time that Utah State last played at San Diego State, none of the players on the Aggies' roster were born yet, as this weekend is USU's first trip to SDSU since 1983, playing in the San Diego State Collegiate Tournament.
With 95 assists over the weekend, sophomore setter Paige Neves moved into the No. 12 spot on USU's career assists list and needs just 31 more to become the 12th player in Aggie history with 1,000 career assists.
Senior outside hitter Josselyn White has 268 career total blocks, needing 11 to tie for the No. 10 spot on the USU career total blocks list... White also has 25 block solos, needing 12 to tie for the No. 10 spot on the career solo block list and logging 244 career block assists, needing 14 more to tie for 10.

LOOKING AT UTAH STATE
Utah State opening with season with a win in its season-opener for the fifth time in last eight years, improving to 18-19 all-time in season-openers, with a 3-0 sweep of Portland in the opening match of the USU Invitational sponsored by Gossner Foods on Friday morning... In the final match of the day, USU battled back from down two sets to one and 19-10 in the fourth set, to force a fifth set before the Aggies' rally came up short, falling to Utah in five sets... On Saturday, the Aggies thwarted the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah in four sets before sweeping another in-state foe in Weber State.
USU has a .202 attack percentage, averaging 11.2 kills per set while the Aggie defense has 2.87 blocks per set and 12.0 digs per set.
Senior outside hitter Josselyn White (Smithfield, Utah) was named to the Utah State Invitational sponsored by Gossner Foods all-Tournament team, hitting .278 for the weekend with 43 kills, 34 digs and 10 blocks in USU's four matches... White is averaging 2.87 kills per set, 2.27 digs per set, 0.67 blocks per set and 12.8 points per set.
Sophomore setter Paige Neves (Otto, Wyo.) did not play in the opener against Portland due to a hand injury, but returned to action against Utah on Friday as well as both matches Saturday... For the weekend, she dished out 95 assists (7.92 per set) over the weekend, including 44 against Utah, for her seventh career match with 40+ assists... Her 7.92 assists per set ranks eighth in the WAC... Neves needs just 31 more assists to become the 12th player in Aggie history with 1,000 career assists... She is also only 170 assists from the No. 11 spot held by Heather Hillier (2005-08) and 311 assists from tying for the No. 10 spot held by Mindi Jackson (1995-96).
Redshirt-freshman middle blocker Elle Brainard (Saratoga Springs, Utah) had a smashing Aggie debut, hitting .625 with eight kills in her first USU match against Portland on Friday, and then posted nine block assists against Southern Utah on Saturday... Brainard is hitting .383, ranking second in the WAC, with 23 kills (1.53 per set) to go with 21 total blocks (1.4 per set)... Brainard's 1.4 blocks per set ranks her sixth in the WAC.
Sophomore middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff (Draper, Utah) is 10th in the WAC with a 1.27 blocks per set average, posting 19 total blocks while adding 1.27 kills per set.
Sophomore libero Ashlan Rogers (Highland, Utah) is tied for ninth in the WAC with 3.33 digs per set, logging 50 digs in the four matches.
UTAH STATE IN TOURNAMENT PLAY
Utah State improved to 54-52 (.509) in regular season tournaments over the last 13 years, with its 3-1 mark in the USU Invitational sponsored by Gossner Foods.
AGGIES AGAINST THE TOURNAMENT FIELD
Utah State has a combined 10-13-1 (.438) record against the teams in this weekend's tournament, having only played two of the three in the past.
Montana - USU is 6-8 (.429) against UM, but the Aggies are seeking their second-straight win over the Grizzlies, after being them in four sets in 2010 in Missoula at the Montana Invitational.
Sacred Heart - Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between the Aggies and Pioneers.
San Diego State - USU has a 4-5-1 (.450) mark versus SDSU, also last playing in 2010, with the Aggies collecting a 3-1 win over the Aztecs in the Arizona State Classic.
LONG TIME BETWEEN VISITS
No one on USU's roster was born the last time that the Aggies played at San Diego State, as this weekend is USU's first trip to SDSU since 1983, playing in the San Diego State Collegiate Tournament... The Aggies didn't play the Aztecs in that visit on Sept. 15-17, 1983, instead playing Nebraska (L, 3-0), Arizona (L, 3-0), US International (W, 3-1), Pepperdine (W, 3-0) and Illinois State (L, 3-0)... USU did face SDSU in the 1983 season, with the Aztecs traveling to Logan on Oct. 13, with SDSU winning 3-1.

Senior outside hitter Josselyn White
ranks 10th all-time at Utah State with 2,358 career attacks and is 327 attacks away from tying Niki Conner (1995-98) for ninth all-time with 2,685 career attacks... White is also approaching the USU top 10 career lists in four other categories... She has 686 kills, needing 207 to crack into the career kills list... White has 268 career total blocks, needing 11 to tie for the No. 10 spot on the USU career total blocks list, as well as totalling 25 block solos, needing 12 to tie for the No. 10 spot on the career solo block list and logging 244 career block assists, needing 14 more to tie for 10.

DUBOSE HAS SECOND-MOST WINS IN SCHOOL HISTORY
With its four-set win at Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 17, 2011, Grayson DuBose moved ahead of former Aggie head coach Burt Fuller (2001-05) and into second-place all-time at USU for career wins... DuBose, who is in his seventh-year at Utah State, now has a 95-90 (.514) overall coaching record, needing just five more wins for the 100-win plateau, becoming just the second coaching position to reach 100 wins... Marilyn McReavy and Mary Jo Peppler hold the school record with 209 wins as they were co-head coaches from 1976-81.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT FIELD
MONTANA - The Grizzlies are 0-3 after their opening weekend at the University of Idaho Nike Invitational in Moscow, Idaho... UM opened action getting swept by Washington State, as Montana hit .057 to Washington State's .240 in the 25-23, 25-12, 25-19 loss... In its second match, the Grizzlies lost to the host Vandals in four, pushing to extra points to win the opener, 30-28, then dropped the next three, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13... Montana's third match was a thriller, pushing tournament champion Pacific to five sets before losing 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 15-25, 8-15.
UM is led by senior outside hitter Paige Branstiter with 2.91 kills per set and junior outside hitter Kayla Reno with 2.67 kps and 4.08 digs per set through three matches... Junior middle blocker Brooke Bray has 1.42 blocks per set, while junior setter Kortney James has dished out 8.17 assist per set.
Montana head coach Jerry Wagner is in his seventh year as the Grizzlies' head coach, posting a 74-89 (.454) record.
SACRED HEART - The Pioneers have a 1-2 mark after their opening weekend at Northeastern's Beanpot Classic... Sacred Heart swept Holy Cross (25-17, 25-22, 25-15) on Friday before losing a pair of four-setters to Alabama (25-15, 14-25, 19-25, 12-25) and host Northeastern (21-25, 22-25, 18-25, 16-25).
In the last two matches, Alissa Young has a 4.5 kills per set average, hitting .268, while Karly Shockey posts 3.0 kills per set... Johanna Osvenek has a team-leading .279 attack percentage with 2.0 kps, adding .25 blocks per set... Alisa Mesa dishes out 9.88 assists per set while Dianis Mercado adds 5.38 digs per set.
SHU head coach Rob Machan is in his sixth season and has a 104-61 (.630) and has led the Pioneers to back-to-back Northeast Conference championships.
SAN DIEGO STATE - The Aztecs are 2-0 after opening the season with a home tournament, sweeping Delaware (25-13, 25-20, 29-27) Friday night before upsetting No. 17 California in five sets (25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 15-25, 15-11)... San Diego State is second among others receiving votes in this week's AVCA Division I Coaches Poll.
SDSU is led by sophomore outside hitter Michelle Waber with 4.5 kills per set while senior middle blocker Andrea Hannasch has a .545 attack percentage (30-6-44)... Junior setter Johnna Fouch dishes out 6.75 assists per set while senior libero Kristi Jackels notches 3.88 digs per set and junior middle blocker Emily Harris posts 1.38 blocks per set.
Deitre Collins-Parker, a two-time national collegiate player of the year and AVCA Hall of Fame member, is in her fourth season as head coach and has posted a 50-41 record (.549) record.
Josselyn White NAMED USU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Utah State volleyball player Josselyn White has been named the first America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week of the 2012-13 school year, for the period ending Sunday, Aug. 26. This award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
White, a senior outside hitter from Smithfield, Utah (Sky View HS), was named to the Utah State Invitational, sponsored by Gossner Foods, all-tournament team last weekend as she helped USU to a 3-1 record and a second-place finish. During the tournament, White hit .278 (43-13-108) with 43 kills, 34 digs and 10 blocks. White posted a career-high .500 attack percentage (14-0-28) in the win against Portland and logged a career-high 18 digs against Southern Utah.
With 10 total blocks on the weekend, White now has 268 career total blocks, needing just 11 more to break into the USU career top 10 list. It was White's third career all-Tournament Team honor, after being named to last year's Utah State Invitational all-Tournament team and MVP, as well as the Utah Classic all-Tournament Team as a sophomore in 2010.
This is White's first career USU Student-Athlete of the Week accolade.
UTAH STATE VERSUS THE STATE OF UTAH
Utah State improved to 30-20 (.600) versus the state of Utah during the last 12 years after going 2-1 against in-state foes in the opening weekend, including a 16-7 (.696) home record... Under seventh-year head coach Grayson DuBose, USU is 14-12 (.538) versus teams from the Beehive State, including an 8-6 (.571) record at home.
UTAH STATE RANKED 10TH IN THE NATION IN BLOCKING LAST SEASON
Utah State ranked 10th in the country in blocking (2.79) last season... Individually, middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff ranked 47th in the nation in blocking (1.19), while senior All-American outside hitter Liz McArthur ranked 82nd in the nation in kills per set (3.72) and 98th in points per set (4.17).
UTAH STATE LED THE WAC IN BLOCKING
Utah State finished the 2011 season ranking first in the WAC in blocks (2.79), second in digs (15.05), sixth in hitting percentage (.168), seventh in kills (11.15), seventh in assists (10.38) and eighth in service aces (0.97).
EVERETT RANKED SECOND IN THE WAC IN BLOCKS
Individually, senior Alyssa Everett finished the season second in the WAC in blocks (1.27) while sophomore Kaitlyn VanHoff finished fourth (1.19)... Senior outside hitter Josselyn White was among the WAC leaders statistically as she was ninth in kills (2.73), eighth in blocks (1.01) and seventh in points (3.45) per set. Sophomore Paige Neves ranked seventh in the WAC in assists, (8.83 per set).
RECAPPING LAST SEASON
Utah State finished the 2011 season with a 17-12 overall mark, posting an even 7-7 WAC record to tied for fourth in the conference... As the No. 4 seed, the Aggies lost to fifth-seeded Fresno State in three sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-10) in the quarterfinals of the WAC Tournament... Opposite side hitter Shay Sorensen earned second-team all-WAC honors following her junior season as she hit .202 and averaged 2.57 kills, 0.71 digs and 0.86 blocks per set... Setter Paige Neves was named to the WAC's all-freshman team in 2011 after hitting .225 and averaging 8.83 assists, 2.48 digs and 0.71 blocks... Sorensen hit .202 last season and averaged 2.57 kills, 0.71 digs and 0.86 blocks per set... Neves ranked seventh in the WAC in assists at 8.83 per set and added 2.48 digs per set as well as 16 service aces, second among the USU returners... Outside hitter Josselyn White was among the WAC leaders statistically last year as she was ninth in kills (2.73), eighth in blocks (1.01) and seventh in points (3.45) per set... Libero Ashlan Rogers averaged 2.61 digs per set as well as leading the team with 23 service aces a season ago as a freshman, while sophomore Kaitlyn VanHoff was fourth in the WAC in blocks at 1.19 per set.
