USU Volleyball Facing First of Three In-State Opponents

Utah State volleyball will host Utah Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the first in-state clash of the 2017 season. The Aggies will face two other schools from the Beehive State later in the year, traveling to Weber State on Tuesday, Sept. 12, and Southern Utah on Friday, Sept. 15.

Utah State Posts 3-1 Victory on the Road at Utah Valley
OREM, Utah - Utah State senior outside Kaylie Kamalu-Smith and junior outside Lauren Anderson each recorded double-digit kills as the Aggies posted a 3-1 (26-24, 6-25, 25-16, 25-20) victory on the road at Utah Valley on Tuesday night. The win moved USU to 5-5 on the year.

The Series with Utah Valley
Utah State leads the all-time series against Utah Valley, 11-6, and has faced the Wolverines each of the last 10 seasons. The Aggies have won each of the last two meetings and three of the last four.

In-State Opponents
Utah State is 90-114 (.441) all-time against opponents from the Beehive State. USU is 25-46 all-time against Utah, 16-41 all-time against BYU, 2-2 all-time against Southern Utah, 11-6 all-time against Utah Valley and 36-19 all-time against Weber State.

Utah State All-Tournament Team
Senior middle Carly Lenzen and junior middle Lauren O’Brien were named to the Utah State all-tournament team. Lenzen finished the weekend with 20 kills, hitting .306 (20-5-49), and totaled 12 blocks, six digs and two service aces. O’Brien led the USU block with 15 during the three-game stretch and also was the most efficient attacker, hitting .308 with 17 kills on 39 attempts with only five errors.


 

 

Swing Away
Senior outside Lauren Anderson recorded the most attempts of any Mountain West player during the first weekend of the season with her career-high 69 attempt-effort against CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 26. Anderson finished the match with 22 kills, one shy of her career high.

Doubling Down on 20
Anderson entered the 2017 season with only two 20-plus kill performances in her career, but has already matched that total with 22 kills against CSU Bakersfield (8/26) and a second 22-kill performance against Pacific (9/1).

Dig Streak
Junior libero Tasia Taylor has opened the year with six straight matches with double-digit digs, including a career-high 25 against CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 26.

Winning Offensively - 2017
Utah State is a perfect 3-0 this season when winning the first set and is undefeated on the year when leading its opponent in hitting percentage.

Mountain West Team Leaders
Utah State is among the top three in the Mountain West in several statistics, including service aces (second, 1.68 per set) and digs (third, 14.50 per set).

Mountain West Individual Leaders
Utah State also has several individual among the top three in the Mountain West, including junior middle Lauren O’Brien, who is third with a .434 (40-7-76) hitting percentage. Senior outside Lauren Anderson is third in both kills per set (4.23) and points per set (4.73) and junior Tasia Taylor is third in digs per set, averaging 4.95.
