LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball (10-4/2-0) will take its first conference road trip this week, facing UNLV (4-11/0-2 MW) in Las Vegas, Nev., on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. (MT). The Aggies continue the trip at New Mexico (9-5/1-1 MW) on Saturday, Sept. 30, at noon.
Party Like It’s 2013
Utah State opened its conference slate 2-0, with 3-1 victories over San Diego State and Fresno State last weekend. The start is the first time the Aggies have opened their conference slate undefeated since the 2013 season.
Or Like It’s 2010
Utah State’s 10-4 overall mark this season is the best start for the Aggies since the 2010 season, when USU started 12-2 and later advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Anderson entered the 2017 season with only two 20-plus kill performances in her career, but has already surpassed that total with four 20-plus kill outings this season, including a career-high-tying 23 kills against San Diego State on Sept. 21.
Taylor has recorded 20 or more digs in a match six times this season and has logged 15 or more digs in all but two contests this year.
Taylor and Anderson both logged 20 or more digs in Utah State’s 3-1 victory over Southern Utah on Sept. 15, recording career highs of 28 and 23, respectively. It was the first time since the 2013 season that USU teammates had tallied 20 or more digs in the same match.
Digging in for Victory
Utah State is most successful this season when the Aggies have strong performances from their back row. In its 10 victories this season, Utah State is averaging 16.62 digs per set, but in its four losses, USU has averaged 12.29 digs per set.
Hitting the Winning Stride
Utah State has also hit the ball better during its victories in 2017, hitting .250 (504-166-1,353) in its 10 wins to just .142 (160-88-508) in its four losses. USU has also held opponents to .147 (447-241-1,405) in its 10 victories, while foes have hit .258 (196-77-462) in the Aggies’ four losses.
Utah State is undefeated (10-0) and has collected all of its victories this season when leading its opponent in hitting percentage.
Utah State is 7-1 this year when matching or logging more digs than its opponents. The Aggies are 8-1 this season when holding opponents to less than a .199 hitting percentage.
