Lauren Anderson Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior outside Lauren Anderson has been named the America First Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 24, it was announced on Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

Anderson (Peoria, Ariz.) recorded a pair of double-doubles this week as Utah State opened conference play 2-0 for the first time since 2013. In a 3-1 win over San Diego State on Thursday, Anderson logged a career-high-tying 23 kills, hitting .308 (23-7-52), and added 12 digs, two blocks and one service ace. In the 3-1 victory over Fresno State on Saturday, Anderson led Utah State with 13 kills, hitting .235 (13-5-34), and added 11 digs, three service aces and a career-high four blocks. For the week, Anderson totaled 36 kills, averaging 4.50 per set, 23 digs, six blocks and four service aces, all while hitting .279 (36-12-86), best among Utah State’s outside hitters.

Utah State (10-4/2-0 MW) will take its first conference road trip this week, facing UNLV (4-11/0-2 MW) in Las Vegas, Nev., on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. (MT). The Aggies continue the trip at New Mexico (9-5/1-1 MW) on Saturday, Sept. 30 at noon.

FOOTBALL – Senior quarterback Kent Myers (Rowlett, Texas) accounted for 265 yards of total offense and a career-high-tying four touchdowns in Utah State’s 61-10 road win at San José State last weekend. Myers was 18-of-24 passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns (19, 43), and rushed for 84 yards on 15 carries and two more scores from 1 and a career-long 68 yards.


 

 

SOCCER – Senior forward Bailee Hammond (Centerville, Utah) led Utah State to a 1-1 road record last weekend, as the Aggies fell to San José State, 2-1, in double overtime and topped Fresno State, 1-0. Against the Spartans, Hammond was one of four Aggies to take a team-high two shots, one of which was on goal. Against the Bulldogs, Hammond scored the game-winning goal, recording her second goal of the season in the ninth minute of the match. She took two shots in the win, both of which were on target. On the weekend, Hammond took four shots with three on goal, while scoring once.

WOMEN’S TENNIS – Sophomore Sophia Haleas (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) finished with a 6-1 overall record in singles and doubles play last weekend at the Idaho State Invitational. Haleas won the doubles bracket with senior Maggie O'Meara, finishing with a perfect 4-0 mark, and placed second in the singles black draw, posting a 2-1 record.
