Utah State Volleyball Plays At New Mexico State Saturday

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's volleyball team continues Western Athletic Conference play this weekend with a match at New Mexico State on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. (MT).
Utah State is 7-9 on the season and 2-1 in WAC play after defeating Louisiana Tech (3-1) on the road Thursday. The Aggies are led by senior All-American outside hitter Liz McArthur who is hitting .151 and averaging 3.77 kills, 2.49 digs, 0.44 blocks and 0.15 service aces per set. Junior outside hitter Josselyn White is hitting .180 and averaging 2.94 kills, 2.64 digs, 1.14 blocks and 0.20 service aces per set, and junior opposite side hitter Shay Sorensen is hitting .173 and averaging 2.37 kills, 0.85 blocks and 0.52 digs per set. As a team, Utah State is hitting .163 on the year as compared to a .164 hitting percentage for its opponents.
New Mexico State is 12-4 on the season and 2-0 in the WAC following a four-set win at home against Idaho Thursday. NMSU, who is 6-1 at home this year, is led by senior middle hitter Kelsey Brennan who is hitting .349 and averaging 2.69 kills and 0.73 blocks per set. Freshman outside hitter Meredith Hays is hitting .199 overall and averaging 4.25 kills and 2.78 digs per set. As a team, NMSU is hitting .196 on the season as compared to a .140 hitting percentage for its opponents. New Mexico State returns five starters and eight letterwinners from last year's team that went 18-13 and finished in second-place in the WAC with a 12-4 record. Mike Jordan is in his 14 season as NMSU's head coach and has an overall record of 297-132.
Utah State is 25-38 all-time against New Mexico State, which includes a 9-19 road record. USU has won each of the last two meetings between the teams, including a five-set win in the semifinals of the 2010 WAC Tournament in Las Vegas. USU also won its last match against NMSU in Las Cruces during the 2010 season in three sets, snapping a nine-match losing streak to the Southern Aggies.
Utah State is 54-45 (.545) in WAC play including a 21-28 (.429) record on the road. Overall, USU has won five-straight WAC road matches dating back to last season.
In road matches, Utah State is 63-86 (.423) during the last 12 years, which includes a 42-59 (.416) record in conference matches. This season, USU is 3-3 on the road and 4-6 in all matches away from home.
