LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball continues its 2017 Mountain West slate this week, hosting Wyoming on Thursday at 7 p.m., on Kirby Court at the Wayne Estes Center.
The Aggies enter the match as winners of five of their last six matches and off to their best start in conference play, 3-1, since the 2014 season. Utah State has been led offensively this year by senior outside Lauren Anderson, who ranks second in the Mountain West in both kills per set (4.19) and points per set (4.74). Overall, Anderson has totaled 243 kills on the year and is second on the team with 156 digs.
Junior libero Tasia Taylor leads the Aggies in digs this season, totaling 287 on the year and double-digit digs in all but one match for Utah State during the year. Taylor is second in the Mountain West with 4.95 digs per set.
Wyoming enters the match with an overall mark of 7-9, including a 2-2 ledger in the Mountain West. Junior outside Emily Lewis leads the Wyoming attack with 172 kills, averaging 2.97 per set, and is followed by sophomore outsides Tara Traphagan and Halie McArdle with 138 and 125 kills, respectively. Freshman Marissa Harmon has directed the attack, recording 488 assists, averaging 8.27 per set, while the Cowgirls hit .209 (724-311-1,978) as a unit.
Defensively, Wyoming leads the Mountain West with 2.78 blocks per set and is paced by junior middle Reed Copeland with 1.28 per set, and followed by redshirt freshman middle Jackie McBride with 1.20 per set and Traphagan with 1.05 per set. Sophomore libero Madi Fields leads the Wyoming back row with 254 digs, averaging 4.31 per set, third in the Mountain West.
Wyoming leads the all-time series with Utah State, 18-16, and has won each of the last five matches. The Aggies last captured a victory against the Cowgirls during the 2014 season, a 3-2 decision in Logan that punctuated a six-match winning streak against Wyoming for USU.
