LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball wraps up a three-match homestand on Tuesday, hosting Boise State at 7 p.m., on Kirby Court at the Wayne Estes Center. The first 300 fans to the match will receive a free light-up stick.
The Aggies enter the match having lost each of their last three contests, losing at New Mexico and at home against Wyoming and Colorado State in three-set sweeps. Prior to the slide, Utah State had won five in a row, including Mountain West openers over San Diego State, Fresno State and UNLV.
USU continues to be paced offensively by senior outside Lauren Anderson with 256 kills, averaging 4.00 per set, second in the Mountain West. Anderson is also second in the league in points per set, averaging 4.55. Boise State senior outside Sierra Nobley leads the Mountain West in both categories, averaging 4.92 kills per set and 5.52 points per set.
The Broncos’ offense is among the best in the conference as the Broncos are first in kills per set (14.24 kps) and assists per set (13.30 aps), and third in hitting percentage (.229). Utah State is fourth in assists per set (12.30), and fifth in kills per set (12.81) and hitting percentage (.214). The Aggies’ offense has proven to be key for USU this season with all 11 victories coming when Utah State has recorded a better hitting percentage than its opponents.
The match on Tuesday night will also feature the top-two liberos in the Mountain West, with Boise State’s Maddi Osburn first in the MW with 5.35 digs per set and USU junior Tasia Taylor second in the league with 4.86 digs per set. Overall, BSU leads the league with 15.76 digs per set and Utah State is second with 15.12 digs per set.
Defense has also played its part in Utah State wins this season, as the Aggies are 8-2 on the year when matching or recording more digs than their opponents. Additionally, USU is 9-1 on the year when holding an opponent’s hitting percentage below .200.
Boise State leads the all-time series with Utah State, 23-18, and has won each of the last four and five of the last six. USU last posted a victory against the Broncos during the 2014 season, a 3-2 win in the regular-season finale in Logan.
