Utah State's Liz McArthur Named WAC Volleyball Player of The Week
Utah State volleyball player Liz McArthur has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week it was announced by the league office Monday.  McArthur was also named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 16, an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball player Liz McArthur has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week it was announced by the league office Monday. McArthur was also named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 16, an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

It is the first time this year and third time in her career that McArthur has been named WAC Player of the Week, and the sixth time she has received USU student-athlete of the week honors overall.

McArthur, a 6-1 senior outside hitter from St. George, Utah (Snow Canyon HS) helped Utah State to a pair of home wins last weekend against WAC foes Fresno State (3-1) and Nevada (3-0).

Against the Bulldogs, McArthur posted her 10th double-double of the season and 22nd of her career with 16 kills and 10 digs, to go along with two service aces and one block assist. Against the Wolf Pack, she had 18 kills, six digs and one block assist, and hit a career-high .680 (18-1-25). For the week, McArthur hit a blistering .409 (34-7-66) and averaged 4.86 kills, 2.29 digs, 0.29 blocks and 0.29 service aces per set.

Utah State, who is 9-11 on the season and in fourth-place in the WAC with a 4-3 league mark, plays a pair of road matches this week at San Jose State (7-13, 2-5) on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. (MT) and at No. 8 Hawai'i (17-1, 7-0) on Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 p.m. (MT).

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Senior Brian McKenna (Farmington, Utah) led Utah State to a fourth-place team finish at the University of Arkansas hosted Chile Pepper Festival as he finished 15th out of 288 runners during the 10-kilometer course with a time of 30:09.5.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Sophomore Hannah Williams (Syracuse, Utah) helped Utah State finish in 14th-place at the University of Arkansas hosted Chile Pepper Festival as she ran the six-kilometer course in 22:16.1 to place 81st individually.

 

 

FOOTBALL - Junior running back Robert Turbin (Fremont, Calif.) rushed for 145 yards on 16 carries (9.1 ypc) including a 59-yard touchdown, in Utah State's 31-21 loss at Fresno State. It was Turbin's fifth-straight 100-yard rushing outing and 13th of his career.

GOLF - Senior Chanse Godderidge (Smithfield, Utah) finished tied for 28th-place with a 9-over 225 (78-74-73) at the Weber State hosted Wildcat Invitational, helping Utah State finish in eighth-place in the 11 team field with a 41-over 905 (306-296-303).

SOCCER - Junior defender Natalie Norris (Sandy, Utah) was instrumental in Utah State's 2-0 road win at Nevada as she scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the 79th minute. Defensively, Norris played all 90 minutes as USU earned its sixth shutout of the year and second in four WAC matches.

MEN'S TENNIS - Sophomore Fredrik Peterson (Bastad, Sweden) posted a 1-1 singles record and teamed with freshman Marcus Fritz in doubles play as the duo advanced to the semifinals at the Utah Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by the University of Utah last weekend.

WOMEN'S TENNIS - Junior Kristina Voytsekhovich (La Mesa, Calif.) posted a 2-1 record in singles play advancing to the quarterfinals and teamed with Jaclyn West in doubles play at the ITA Regional Tournament in Las Vegas last weekend.
