LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball will wrap up a three-match road swing on Saturday when the Aggies face San Diego State in San Diego, Calif., at 2 p.m. (MT).
USU enters the match having lost each of its last two in four sets, with defeats at Air Force and Fresno State. The results evened the Aggies’ road mark on the year to 4-4.
San Diego State posted a five-set victory over Boise State in its last match, falling behind 2-0, before capturing each of the final three sets against the Broncos in San Diego on Thursday night.
Overall, SDSU is 10-12 on the year and 4-5 in the Mountain West, posting three of its four conference victories at home. Junior middle Deja Harris is one of five hitters on the SDSU roster averaging more than two kills per set, leading the way with 2.96 per set. She is followed by sophomore outside Hannah Turnlund (2.73 kps), senior outside Alexis Cage (2.49 kps), sophomore outside Ashlynn Dunbar (2.35 kps) and junior outside Alexandra Psoma (2.18 kps). Freshman setter Gabi Peoples directs the attack with a team-best 653 assists, averaging 8.82 per set, while San Diego State hits .206 (1,110-522-2,853) as a team. Harris is third in the league with a .344 (246-85-468) hitting percentage and is fourth in blocks per set, averaging 1.27.
Utah State beat the Aztecs in the first match between the two teams earlier this year in Logan as senior outside Lauren Anderson led the Aggies with 23 kills, adding 12 digs. Anderson was one of four Utah State players with double-digit digs, as junior libero Tasia Taylor recorded a team-best 17, followed by junior setter Kassidy Johnson with 12 and senior outside Rachel Gale-Hammond with 10.
Turnlund led the SDSU attack during the match and was the only Aztec with double-digit kills, finishing with 12. Dunbar narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 14 digs, while senior libero Devyn Pritchard led both teams with 20 digs.
Utah State will be looking for its first victory in San Diego against the Aztecs since joining the Mountain West in 2013. Overall, SDSU leads the all-time series 11-7-1, but USU has won two of the last three.
Following the match in San Diego, Utah State will return to Logan for a pair of home matches against New Mexico and UNLV on Thursday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 28, respectively.
