Utah State Volleyball Plays At San Jose State Thursday

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team continues Western Athletic Conference play this week with a match at San Jose State on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. (MT).
Utah State is 15-7 on the season and 3-6 in the WAC after dropping a three-set match (25-18, 25-22, 25-16) to No. 5 Hawai'i at home Monday. USU is led by junior outside hitter Liz McArthur who is hitting .228 and averaging 4.20 kills, 1.88 digs, 0.43 blocks and 0.43 service aces per set. Sophomore opposite side hitter Shay Sorensen is hitting .247 and averaging 2.25 kills and 0.79 blocks per set, while senior setter Chelsea Fowles is hitting .312 and averaging 9.90 assists, 2.15 digs, 0.90 kills, 0.68 blocks and 0.32 service aces per set. As a team, Utah State is hitting .229 on the year as compared to a .180 hitting percentage for its opponents.
San Jose State is 8-15 on the season and 3-6 in WAC play as it lost at home to Fresno State (3-1) Saturday. The Spartans are 6-6 at home this year and are led by sophomore middle blocker Alex Akana who is hitting .269 and averaging 2.16 kills, 0.57 digs and 0.54 blocks per set. As a team, SJSU is hitting .179 on the season and its opponents are hitting .260. San Jose State returns six starters and nine letterwinners from last year's team that went 1-27 overall, including a 1-15 WAC record.
Utah State is 10-17-1 all-time against San Jose State including a 4-7 record on the road. SJSU won the first meeting between the two teams this year in Logan in four sets. Overall, the Aggies have won nine of its 13 matches against San Jose State since joining the WAC, including a four-set win in San Jose last year.
Utah State is 56-82 (.406) in road matches during the last 10 years, which includes a 37-59 (.385) record in conference matches. This year, USU is 5-3 on the road with wins at Utah (3-1), Arizona State (3-0), Montana (3-1), Brigham Young (3-2) and Idaho (3-1), and losses at then No. 5 Hawai'i (3-0), Boise State (3-2) and Nevada (3-1). USU is 46-43 (.517) in WAC play all-time including a 16-28 (.364) record on the road.
