Utah State Volleyball's Kaitlyn VanHoff Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State junior middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff has been named the America First Credit Union USU Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Nov. 17; it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
This is VanHoff's second career weekly award, as she won Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Oct. 1-7, 2012.
VanHoff, a 6-0 middle blocker from Draper, Utah, set a school record for attack percentage in a three-set match when she hit .818 with nine kills on 11 hits with zero errors Saturday against Fresno State. VanHoff also added one block. On Thursday against San José State, VanHoff ended the match with a .333 attack percentage with eight kills on 12 hits, while adding four blocks. For the week, VanHoff posted a .565 (17-4-23) attack percentage and averaged 3.33 points, 2.83 kills and 1.83 blocks per set.
On the season, VanHoff leads the Aggies with 132 total blocks, averaging 1.31 blocks per set, while posting a .278 attack percentage (212-77-485).
Utah State volleyball is on the road this week, squaring off against UNLV on Nov. 21 and San Diego State on Nov. 23 before returning to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum to close out the season against Air Force on Nov. 25 and Nevada on Nov. 27, both at 7 p.m.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Junior Eric Shellhorn (Montrose, Colo.) placed 43rd at the NCAA Mountain Regional in Riverdale, Utah last weekend as he ran the 10-kilometer course in 30:30.9. USU finished in 11th-place overall out of 17 teams.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Senior Alex Litzsinger (Pocatello, Idaho) placed 27th at the NCAA Mountain Regional in Riverdale, Utah last weekend as she ran the six-kilometer course in 21:21.8. USU finished in 11th-place overall out of 20 teams.
MEN'S BASKETBALL - Senior guard/forward Spencer Butterfield (Loomis, Calif.) scored in double-figures in consecutive games in leading Utah State to a 2-0 record last week with a 90-57 home win against Southern Utah and a 71-64 road win at UC Santa Barbara. Against the Thunderbirds, Butterfield scored 11 points as he was 5-of-7 from the field and 1-for-2 from three-point range to go along with five rebounds, one steal and one assist. Against the Gauchos, he tied a career-high with four made three-pointers on the way to 16 points as he was 5-of-12 from the field, 4-of-6 from behind the arc and 2-for-3 at the free throw line. He also had seven rebounds and two assists against UCSB. For the week, Butterfield averaged 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.5 steals per game, while shooting 52.6 percent from the field (10-19), including 62.5 percent from three-point range (5-8) and 66.7 at the free throw line (2-3).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Sophomore guard/forward Stephanie Bairstow (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) scored nine points to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds in Utah State's 100-58 home win against Loyola Marymount last week. Against the Lions, Bairstow was 2-of-6 from the field (.333) and 5-for-5 at the free throw line, while adding three assists, three blocks and two steals.
