LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball player Liz McArthur was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) West Region first-team it was announced Tuesday. With her selection, McArthur is now eligible for All-American consideration, which will be announced on December 15.

McArthur was one of five players from the Western Athletic Conference to earn first-team AVCA West Region honors and the only player from the state of Utah named to the first-team.

Along with being named to the AVCA West Region first-team in 2010, McArthur was also named the Most Valuable Player of the WAC Tournament, a first-team all-WAC honoree, and received Academic All-District VIII third-team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Utah State has now had five players earn AVCA all-region honors in the last eight years as Erin Cartwright-Davis (2003), Zuzana Cernianska (2005) and Amanda Nielson (2007) all earned first-team honors, while Erin Graybill earned honorable mention all-region honors (2005). Cartwright-Davis, Cernianska and Nielson all went on to earn honorable mention All-American honors. The only other Aggie to be honored by the AVCA was Marie Motil, who earned second-team Northwest Region honors following the 1993 season.

"I am pleased that Liz was recognized by the AVCA to be an all-region selection," said USU head coach Grayson DuBose. "She was obviously a valuable part of our program and what we are trying to develop here at Utah State. Credit should also go to her teammates that pushed her each day in practice to improve. I am happy for both Liz and our program."

McArthur, a junior outside hitter from St. George, Utah (Snow Canyon HS), finished the season ranking first in the league in service aces per set (0.33), third in kills per set (4.00) and third in points per set (4.59). Nationally, she finished the season ranking 32nd in points and 34th in kills.

McArthur, who earned second-team all-WAC honors a year ago, will enter her senior season ranking sixth all-time in school history with 1,025 kills and fifth all-time in total attacks with 2,990.

One 14-person team and six honorable mention players are selected per region by member head coaches. The West Region is made up of teams from the Big West Conference, the Mountain West Conference and the Western Athletic Conference.
