Mike is entering his third year serving as the Head Athletic Trainer at Utah State. Overall, this is Williams' 17th year working at Utah State. He is the head trainer for the football team, while providing support for USU's 15 other NCAA Division I programs.
Williams began his athletic training career at Utah State where he received a Bachelor's of Science in exercise science. He attended graduate school at the University of Idaho and graduated with a Master's of Science in sports administration in 1997. Prior to working at Utah State, Mike worked for Intermountain Health Care as an athletic trainer and served as the head athletic trainer for the Idaho Stampede of the CBA.
Mike was raised in Arimo, Idaho. He enjoys riding his motorcycle in his spare time.
Fawn Michel, MS, ATC Assistant Athletic Trainer
Fawn Michel is entering her 21st year working as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Utah State. Michel's primary responsibility is volleyball, while providing support for USU's other NCAA Division 1 programs.
Fawn began her athletic training career after graduating from Ithaca College in 1988, where she earned a Bachelor's of Science in K-12 physical education with a concentration in athletic training. She attended graduate school at the University of Arizona, where she graduated with a Master's of Science in exercise science with an emphasis in athletic training in 1990.
Fawn was raised in Troy, Penn. She is married to Darin and has two daughters, Jesse and Kennedy. She enjoys watching her kids play sports, playing with her dog, camping and being outside.
Sam Gay, MEd, ATC Assistant Athletic Trainer
Sam Gay is in his third season as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Utah State. Gay's primary responsibility is men's basketball, while providing support for USU's other NCAA Division 1 programs. He came to Utah State after two years at University of the Pacific, working with the Tiger's women's volleyball and baseball programs. Before Pacific, Gay was an intern athletic trainer for the San Francisco 49ers.
Gay began his athletic training career after graduating from Eastern Washington University in 2008, where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in athletic training, with a double minor in health sciences and basketball coaching. Gay earned a Master's of Education degree in health, physical education, and recreation in 2010 from Utah State University. While at USU, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Aggies' cross country and track and field programs, as well as assisted with the football program.
Sam was born and raised in Port Angeles, Wash. Gay and his wife, Sabrina, have a son, Oliver, and a daughter, Aubrey.
Jessica Achatz is in her first season as an Assistant athletic trainer at Utah State. Achatz works primarily with Utah State's cross country and track & field programs, as well as provide support for the Aggies' other programs.
Achatz came to Utah State after spending two years at Adams State (Alamosa, Colo.), where she earned her master's degree in exercise science in 2015. The native of Rocky Ford, Colo., was a graduate assistant trainer with the Grizzlies, working with the men's soccer program for two years, women's basketball program for a year and men's lacrosse program for a year. Prior to earning her master's from Adams State, Achatz worked for an orthopedic company. She earned her bachelor's from North Carolina in 2010.
Achatz graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 2006, lettering in both basketball and volleyball for the Meloneers. During her senior season, Achatz earned all-state accolades in basketball.
