2013-14 SPORTS MEDICINE GRADUATE ASSISTANTS


Kristen Bartiss, ATC, CPT
Ithaca College

Kristin is in her first year as a Graduate Assistant at Utah State University. Her primary sport assignment is Football.

She graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, as well as a minor in Sports Psychology and Coaching. While at Ithaca, Kristen worked with the women's basketball, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, and men's /women's swimming and track and field teams. She also gained experience working with the Cornell University Sprint Football team and local high school. She is currently working on her Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Kristen is from New Jersey and is the daughter of Mark and Terry Bartiss. She loves spending time outdoors, hanging out with friends and family, dancing, playing a wide variety of sports, and has a passion for nutrition and fitness. She is looking forward to experiencing life out West, and spending time camping, hiking, and snowboarding.




Jill Cole, ATC
University of Texas at Arlington

Jill is in her second year as a Graduate Assistant at Utah State University. During her first year she worked with the Softball team, and this year she will be working with Football.

She graduated in 2012 from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. During her undergraduate program she worked with women's volleyball and men and women's cross country and track and field. Jill also worked in various clinical settings outside of UT-Arlington athletics. Jill is currently working on her Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Jill was born and raised in Red Oak, Texas. She enjoys the outdoors and volleyball and her favorite teams are the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. Jill is looking forward to experiencing all of the outdoor activities Utah has to offer.




Crystal Davisson, ATC
Brigham Young University

Crystal is in her second year as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Utah State University. During her first year, her primary sport was Football, but this year she will be working primarily with the Women's Soccer team.

Crystal graduated from Brigham Young University in 2011 with her Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training. She worked with BYU's football, women's basketball, swimming & diving, and track & cross country teams, as well as in a physical therapy clinic and a local area high school. She is currently working on her Master's Degree in Health & Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Crystal was born in Abingdon, Virginia, but was raised in Pine, Arizona. She enjoys being outdoors, reading, watching the Tour de France, and spending time with her husband, Jeff, and her two cats, Roger and Lucy.




Shayla Foster, ATC
Chapman University

Shayla Foster is in her first year as a Graduate Assistant at Utah State University. Her primary sport is Women's Gymnastics.

She graduated in 2013 from Chapman University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. During her time at Chapman she worked with DIII football, a local high school, DII NAIA men's and women's basketball, softball, baseball, DI women's soccer, and men's club lacrosse. She has also worked with Justin Sports Medicine at a variety of PRCA rodeos. She is currently working on her Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Shayla was born and raised in Longmont, Colorado and enjoys outdoor activities with family and friends such as alpine skiing, water skiing, paddle boarding, hiking, and riding horses.




James Hoover, ATC, CDSS
Slippery Rock University

James Hoover is in his second year as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Utah State University. During both of his years here, James has been responsible for both the Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field teams.

James graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training. While at Slippery Rock University, he worked with women's volleyball, football, the university's clinic, women's lacrosse, and Karns City High School. He is currently working on his Master's of Science degree in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

James was raised in Vermilion, OH and enjoys running, cycling, snowboarding, hiking, basketball, football and most any other sport.




Will Horlbeck, ATC, CSCS
Whitworth University

Will is in his second year as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer working for Utah State University. During his first year he worked with Men's and Women's Tennis, as well as Football. This year he will continue to work primarily with the Football team.

Will graduated in 2012 from Whitworth University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology. During his senior year at Whitworth, Will was responsible for working with the baseball team. Will is currently working on his Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Will was born in Boulder, Colorado and is an avid CU fan. He enjoys hiking, camping, baseball, and football.




Nick Lambertsen, ATC
Brigham Young University

Nick Lambertsen is in his first year as a Graduate Assistant at Utah State University. His primary sport is Women's Softball.

He graduated in 2013 from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. During his time earning an undergraduate degree, he worked with the BYU football, men's lacrosse, and soccer teams, as well as Provo High School. He is currently working on his Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Nick was born in Salt Lake City and was raised in Logan, Utah. He enjoys soccer and hopes to find a career working in professional soccer.




Zach Phipps, ATC
Weber State University

Zach Phipps is in his first year as a Graduate Assistant at Utah State University. His primary sport is Women's Basketball.

Zach graduated in 2012 from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Therapy. During his undergraduate work at Weber, Zach primarily worked with Weber State men's basketball and at a local high school his senior year. Zach is currently working on his Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Zach grew up in Wellsville, Utah. He enjoys golfing, softball, football, baseball, and most any other sport. He also loves to spend time with his wife, Alexa.




Jake Pierce, ATC, CSCS
Whitworth University

Jake is in his second year as a Graduate Assistant at Utah State University. During his first year he worked with Cross Country and Track and Field, but this year he will be working primarily with the Football team.

He graduated in 2012 from Whitworth University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. During his time earning an undergraduate degree, he worked with the Whitworth football team and the Spokane Chiefs WHL hockey team. He is currently working on his Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

Jake was born and raised in Twin Falls, Idaho and enjoys watching sports and being with family and friends.




Emily Silva, ATC
University of Pacific

Emily is in her second year as a Graduate Assistant at Utah State University. During her first year she worked with Women's Gymnastics, and this year she will be working with Football.

She graduated from the University of the Pacific in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Emily served as District 8 Representative for the National Athletic Training Student's Committee. In 2010 she graduated from Modesto Junior College with an Associate of Science in Athletic Training and an Associate of Arts in Natural Sciences. Emily is currently working on her Master's of Science in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.

She was born and raised in Ripon, California and is the daughter of Al and Marsha Silva. She was a competitive acrobatic gymnast for 14 years and also enjoys dancing, singing, baseball, football, and outdoor activities. She has recently found a new hobby in stand up paddle boarding. Her favorite sport is baseball. Go Giants!!!
